"Jeff, wait for me!" Liu Woods chased after his younger brother, who was giggling happily as he ran down the school corridor. Today had been the last day of school before Christmas Vacation and Jeff couldn't have been happier. The snow was plentiful and Christmas day was just around the corner. Finally catching up he snatched his eight year old sibling up, ruffling his hair before taking Jeff's hat out of his book bag and placing it on his head. "It's cold outside, bro! You're gonna freeze you're ears off." Liu said with a smile. Jeff grinned and scrambled out of Liu's arms. "I don't care if they freeze off, Liu! Let's go home!" Their father and mother would be working late that night. That was how Jeff liked it. He and Liu always had so much fun when they were alone. And because it was nearing Christmas time, Liu had promised they would make chocolate chip cookies in the shape of Christmas trees and then they would go sledding.
The eleven year old studied Jeff as a frown played at his lips."Jeff? Mind telling me where your coat is?" Jeff glanced down at his person and stared for moment before looking back up into Liu's eyes. "..Guess I forgot it. But I'll be fine! It isn't that cold." Liu rolled his eyes, "Of course it's not." He picked Jeff up and walked outside into the crisp, cold December air. Jeff instantly began shivering, curling up in his brother's arms. Liu sat him down, sighing softly. " I told you you'd get cold.." He said. Wrapping his arms around himself, Jeff quickly shook his head. "N-No really Liu! I'm f-fine!" he insisted. The boy shook his head, smiling. Liu reached for his zipper and unzipped his coat, removing it and exposing himself to the cold and snowy wind. Jeff watched as Liu knelt down and draped it over his shoulder's, zipping it up. He took the child in his arms and began walking in the direction of their house. Jeff frowned, "Liu, no! You don't have to do that, I said I was fine!" Jeff didn't want his brother to be cold just for his sake, even though the warm of the coat was a complete relief to his skin. Liu papped a hand over Jeff's mouth, smiling. "I-It's cool, J-Jeff. I d-don't want you to be cold." He said through chattering teeth. He pushed Liu's hand away, "But Li-" "Nothing you say will change my mind. Nothing. At. All." Jeff gave up and nodded quietly, curling up in his big brother's arms.
By the time they got home, Liu was covered from head to toe in snowflakes and his skin was a chilling shade of blue. He sat Jeff down and helped him take the coat off, dusting the snow from it and hanging it up before walking stiffly up the stairs and curling up on the couch. Jeff ran to their shared room and came back with a black blanket, draping it over his shivering brother. "Be right back." He said. Liu nodded and gripped the blanket tightly as Jeff ran into the kitchen. The boy took a jug of chocolate milk out of the fridge and poured it into a tall glass. He placed it in the microwave and set it for thirty seconds. While he waited he placed the milk back in the fridge and took out a can of whipped cream. The microwave beeped loudly. Jeff got a paper towel to prevent burning his hand on the hot glass and took it out, setting it on the counter and making a messy whipped cream swirl on top of it. Getting a glass of fruit punch for himself, Jeff went back into the living room and sat the drinks on the coffee table. "Thanks.." Liu smiled, sitting up and carefully taking a sip of his drink. Jeff turned on the TV and began swapping through channels before settling on 'A Charlie Brown Christmas', a favorite of the two.
Liu patted the couch cushion next to him. Jeff got the gesture and sat down, taking a sip of his punch as the special started. "You make some pretty good hot chocolate, Jeff. It really hits the spot." Liu spoke, taking a long drink before setting the glass down. Jeff chuckled, "Thanks.. It's just heated up chocolate milk." he rested his smaller head against Liu's chest. "Liu?" "Yeah Jeff?" Jeff smiled. "Thanks for making sure I didn't freeze." Liu smiled and tucked them both in, pulling Jeff closer to him. "No problem. We still up for those cookies after this is over?" Liu asked. Jeff chuckled and nodded. "Definitely." The two brothers happily sat back on the couch as the snow fell outside, the blanket shrouding them in heavenly warmth. A great start to a great Winter.
